ASTHMA

A great deal of research is conducted surrounding asthma every year and new treatments or treatment combinations are continually being refined. Just as symptoms may vary by individual, your treatment plan and courses of action need to be individualized as well.

Asthma is a chronic lung condition that inflames and narrows the airways of the lungs, thereby causing difficulty breathing. Asthma symptoms may include coughing, wheezing, shortness of breath, and tightness in the chest. Symptoms may be triggered when the airflow in and out of the lungs becomes obstructed. The airways may be obstructed due to inflammation or due to the muscles tightening around the airway, causing it to narrow.

As with any condition that one may have, it is important to be aware of your own symptoms and triggers, take you medications as prescribed and continue to work with your healthcare provider in monitoring your condition. Educating yourself on the nature of your condition can also help you to understand it better and help to lessen any anxiety. The exact causes of asthma are unknown, however, we do know that asthma can have hereditary or environmental causes. It is estimated that about 3 million Canadians have asthma.

At Bluewater Clinical Research Group, we are happy to contribute to the lives of asthmatics through ongoing clinical research trials. If you, or a loved one, have asthma and are interested in learning more about clinical trials and how you can contribute, please fill out the form below for more information. As everyone has different schedules, we may even text you to set up a good time to talk.

Clinical research studies can have varying criteria to participate in them. We will be contacting you to discuss the inclusion and exclusion criteria for this study to help us determine if you qualify and if the study may be a good fit for you.
