Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a common disorder that affects the large intestine (colon). Irritable bowel syndrome’s most common symptoms are cramping, abdominal pain, bloating, gas, diarrhea and constipation. There are two sub-types of irritable bowel syndrome: IBS-C and IBS-D. IBS-C is irritable bowel syndrome that is predominately associated with frequent bouts of constipation while IBS-D is irritable bowel syndrome that is predominately associated with episodes of diarrhea. IBS is a chronic condition but can be managed through proper diet, exercise, and, when necessary, medication regimes.
