FEMALE SEXUAL DYSFUNCTION

Female Hypoactive Sexual Desire Disorder is a condition referring to a woman’s loss of sexual interest or desire for sexual activity marked by severe distress or interpersonal difficulty. The symptoms include a lack of sexual thoughts or fantasies, reduced pleasure during sexual activity, and a disinterest in the initiation of sex. This condition may occur in up to one-third of women and can have a distressing impact on personal life and relationships.

Although it is not unusual for a woman’s libido to fluctuate throughout her life, if you find you have lost the desire you once had, you may suffer from Hypoactive Sexual Desire Disorder. Lack of sexual desire can be very frustrating for some women and their partners. Various life experiences may uniquely affect sexual desire including feelings of low self-esteem, lack of happiness, menstrual cycles, hormonal contraceptives, postpartum states and lactation, oophorectomy and hysterectomy, and perimenopausal and postmenopausal states.

Postmenopause is the time after menopause during which many of symptoms of menopause, such as hot flashes, disappear. The loss of estrogen and testosterone following menopause can lead to other changes in a woman's body, including a loss of sexual drive. Bluewater Clinical Research Group is currently enrolling for a clinical study for volunteers who are post-menopausal and struggling with the loss of sexual desire.
